OakNorth Bank has opened an office in Birmingham to support businesses in the Midlands and recruited four new senior hires.
Steve Mitchell (pictured above), Marcus Hook, Martin Williams and Chris Mears have all joined the specialist bank as debt finance directors.
Steve — who spent more than six years at Santander — will be accompanied by Marcus, a former colleague at the challenger bank, to oversee lending operations at the newly opened Birmingham office.
Martin has over 35 years of banking experience and will join OakNorth’s London HQ.
Chris — who has more than 16 years of experience working across Clydesdale Bank, Barclays, HSBC and, most recently, Santander — will join debt finance director Tom Windett in Bristol to help cover the South West.
“The launch of our Birmingham office and senior-level hires come at a pivotal moment for OakNorth as we look ahead to 2020 and the future lending pipeline,” said Ben Barbanel, head of debt finance at OakNorth.
“While we are, of course, being more cautious when it comes to assessing credit risk, we see the next six months as a key opportunity to not only prove the strength of our proposition, but to also gain market share at a time when many of the high street lenders will be pulling back.
