Unity Trust Bank has sanctioned £100m of loans in just seven months to organisations contributing to economic, community and environmental change.

The bank has reported significant progress since becoming independent in 2015 after achieving record profits in 2016.

Highlights of Unity Trust Bank's 2017 half-year social impact include:

  • 396 jobs created and protected
  • 238 bed spaces created and renovated
  • 12 community facilities provided
  • staff volunteered 74 days alongside £3,175 of donations
  • 47% women in senior management team

The bank believed that the safe growth of its loan book had cemented its position as a credible alternative to the high street banks.

“Socially responsible banking remains at the heart of everything we do,” said Margaret Willis, CEO of Unity Trust Bank.

“As a commercial bank with a social conscience, we are delighted that we have been able to support those SMEs and socially minded organisations who share our values.

“Loan approvals of £100m in the first seven months of the year further demonstrates our financial strength and determination to make a positive impact on society.”
