47% of global ecommerce transactions set to be made using eWallet

Almost half of all global ecommerce transactions (47%) will be made using an eWallet by 2022, up from 36% in 2018, according to the latest research.

Online marketplace OnBuy.com — which analysed the findings of a report by Worldpay — also revealed that:

  • debit cards represented 32% of ecommerce transactions as well as 55% of in-store payments
  • for purchasing products or services online: eWallet represented 23% of such transactions, followed by credit card (18%), bank transfer (9%), cash on delivery (7%), and charge and deferred debit card (6%)
  • cash was the second most dominant payment method for in-person purchases at 22%, followed by credit card (15%), eWallet (5%) and charge card (2%).
