Development Bank of Wales provides micro loan to country inn

The Development Bank of Wales has completed a micro loan to a Welsh country inn.

The Farmers Arms in the Waen, Denbighshire, was purchased in November 2017 by Elaine Molloy (pictured above, centre) and Peter Maull (left).

Funding from Barclays and the Development Bank of Wales has enabled an extensive refurbishment of the 18th-century country inn.

Anna Bowen, investment executive at Development Bank of Wales (right), said: “We enjoy a strong working relationship with Barclays, so we were delighted to get involved with the refurbishment of the Farmers Arms.

“With extensive grounds and a rustic interior, it is such an unspoilt and welcoming traditional Welsh inn.

“It is also particularly rewarding to know that our funding is making a real difference to local people who really do consider the inn as the heart of the Waen.

“You can’t underestimate the social or economic impact of a good local.”
