Challenger bank TSB has introduced facial recognition technology – Face ID – to enable customers to unlock their mobile banking app and make payments via their account.

Carlos Abarca, chief information officer at TSB, said: “This is the ultimate mobile banking experience for people that want instant access to their banking.

“Providing customers with biometrics logon to their mobile banking – such as Face ID – means all of those passwords and memorable information become a thing of the past.

“Digital solutions like this are playing a major role in the everyday lives of our customers – something that will not slow down, and we're excited to be at the forefront of the new technology.”

The innovate launch by TSB comes just weeks after it introduced Samsung Pass iris recognition for its customers, which was built on its new Proteo4UK IT banking platform.

Carlos continued: “Our customers are increasingly demanding a greater user experience and we are constantly innovating to deliver this.

“Our new banking platform Proteo4UK allows us to accelerate TSB's ability to make banking better for all UK customers.

“Introducing solutions such as Apple Face ID to our mobile app is just another example of what we can now deliver.”
